Clayre and eef

Digital in-store product navigation & inventory management system for Clayre & Eef

As retail operations scale, even simple questions like “Where is this product?” become complex.

That was the challenge for Clayre & Eef, a Netherlands based home décor brand with a large multi floor cash and carry store and thousands of products.

Their off the shelf system was rigid and misaligned with daily operations. Updating locations, moving items across U rooms, and tracking placements became time consuming and unclear.

They partnered with Mallow to build a system that fits how their teams actually work.

We delivered a custom mobile app that gives instant visibility into product placements, enabling teams to search, locate, and update products across the store in real time with ease.

Project Overview

Challenge, approach, and tech stack overview

What was the client’s key challenge

The existing off the shelf system was too rigid for Clayre & Eef’s evolving operations. Managing product placements across multiple U rooms and floors lacked flexibility, making updates, tracking movements, and locating products difficult.

As inventory scaled, inefficiencies grew, with bulk actions becoming cumbersome and visibility remaining fragmented. They needed a system that offers real time clarity while seamlessly aligning with their operational workflows.

Products under management

Distributed across complex store layouts, with real-time visibility and seamless placement tracking.

What was our approach

Mallow approached this as a product-centric problem, focusing on giving users complete visibility and control over product placements. The system was designed to answxer a simple but critical question: “Where is this product placed?”

We built a centralized platform where products can exist across multiple U-rooms and floors, with the flexibility to update placements effortlessly. Combined with intuitive workflows, efficient search (EAN, keyword, QR), and support for bulk operations, the solution ensures speed, accuracy, and scalability in day-to-day operations.

Core Features

Key functionalities delivered in the project

1

Product-centric placement visibility

Each product is mapped to one or multiple U-rooms across floors. Users can instantly view all the locations where a product is placed, ensuring complete visibility without manual tracking.

2

Multi-placement management system

Products are not restricted to a single location. The system allows for assigning products to multiple U-rooms, viewing all active placements, and updating placements dynamically based on operational needs.

3

Flexible product reassignment

Users can easily change where a product is placed through a guided flow that allows selecting new U-rooms across floors, ensuring quick updates without introducing data inconsistencies.

Our Process

How we approached and executed the project

Step 1 - Understanding existing constraints

We started by evaluating the limitations of the existing off-the-shelf system to understand where it was falling short. This helped us identify critical gaps in flexibility, especially around managing product placements, handling updates, and supporting real-time operational needs.
