The production database relied on Amazon RDS automated snapshots, but all backups remained within the same AWS region, creating a potential single point of failure during regional outages or unexpected data loss events.

What was the client’s key challenge
AgentMethods stored all Amazon RDS automated backups in the same AWS region as its production database. This created a single point of failure, where a regional outage or backup loss could leave the business without a recoverable copy of its critical data.
The company needed a resilient disaster recovery solution that protected backups outside the primary region while providing a secure, reliable, and repeatable recovery process to support business continuity.

What was our approach
Rather than adding another disaster recovery environment that would continuously consume infrastructure resources, we evaluated the available AWS disaster recovery strategies and selected a backup and restore approach that aligned with the client’s recovery objectives and budget.
Using native AWS capabilities, we implemented automated cross-region replication for Amazon RDS backups, ensuring production snapshots were securely copied to an independent disaster recovery region without relying on custom scripts or third-party tools. We also established secure access controls, backup retention policies, and a documented recovery process so the database could be restored quickly and consistently whenever required.
